15/11/09 09:32 pm - Holiday Update!

The big Holiday Update is finally all up there! You will notice the Hanukkah cards are not listed yet. That is because I had some problems with printing, but the cards will be added tomorrow. This is the last big shop update until Jan. 1st.
I might still add a few things here and there–as I sew my goods for the two big December shows I am doing, but in general this is it. This way I can leave my shop open but not stress over getting goods made.

This is really crappy quality (digital cam shot of my TV), but I couldn't find it online anywhere!

Greg Behrendt's wife, Amira, changed her "Free Pass" to John K. And then this happened. :)

The second part cuts out before the end. Thanks DVR.

Find out if the rumors about Robin are true. Queersupe has compiled an A-Z list of gay comic book characters.

The Guardian UK imitates the impotent ire of indie British booksellers, b*tches about How Waterstone's Killed Bookselling.

Sometimes the best way to introduce a link is to just quote the linked-to article's title: J.J. Abrams Finishes Reading Dark Tower, Decides Not To Adapt It. Ouch.

THB and Heavy Liquid creator Paul Pope just won the 'Silver Dildo' for Sexiest Art at the first annual Fleshbot Awards. You can peep some of Pope's work here.

Mr. Rogers was an inspiration to countless puppet-loving, trolley obsessed, postman-fetishizing kids. So why the hell are they defaming his memory with this stomach-churning statue?

I was born a few years too late to enjoy this particular cultural touchstone, but Maxim's 12 Superheroes Who Should Be On '70s Vans makes me wish I was around when the airbrush artist was king.

13/11/09 11:59 pm - Pink

I have been having so much fun reading all your family traditions for the holidays, they are are so wonderful to read and really have me getting all excited. I promise that after my update Sunday I’ll post a bunch of Thanksgiving stuff, and will lay off the December holidays until Thanksgiving is over ;) Not all all that I want to rush it. I almost wish the whole season was longer.

The Ebelskiver above was totally inspired by HappyDoodleLand’s blog. When I saw that I just knew the kids and I had to give it a try. She has a link to a wonderful Youtube video that is really helpful too. For the first try I just used Light Bisquik mix and soy milk, mixed to a good consistency. They turned out soo good, and now I can’t wait to make a filled batch.

Oh and here are some photos of the studio. I tried to take pictures of all of it, but it was so overcast today. If it is sunny tomorrow I will try again.

I am so happy. This week has been so wonderful in so many ways. I am going to Transfamily with Madeline on Saturday, I am excited, and also nervous. I have applied to Dave's Cosmic Subs, and right now I'm just waiting to hear back from them. Life has been pretty nice to me lately. I hope everyone has been doing great. I am excited for thanksgiving so I can spend quality time with my family. Living on my own is so much better than I have expected. I just love living right now.
12/11/09 12:08 pm - another list
inspired by this post.

you'd never guess:
1. i very often think things are computer generated or just plain fake. this annoys my boyfriend and best friend a lot because i take the fun out of movies/commercials/etc ALL the time.
2. i have terrible OCD sometimes, to the point where i can't control it. you'd think my room would be spotless, right? wrong.
3. i don't think it's important to have a ton of acquaintances. i don't like surface relationships.
4. i love 13 going on 30 & mean girls. i absolutely hate natalie portman.
5. i have more pet peeves than anybody i know. i hate when people don't know how to spell a word but instead of looking it up, write it how they think it may be spelled. over cooked pasta, bad customer service, when people are in work positions that they obviously shouldn't be in, all olive garden commercials, when people don't appreciate things they have.
6. i'm very sarcastic, love dry humor and hate my laugh.
7. i have tinnitus so i have a hard time falling asleep with no music or the television on.
8. i watch the home shopping network more than normal even though more than half of the items they are selling are ridiculous.
9. jared says that i am a "black belt" at "that's what she said". i just can't help myself.
10. the thought of being a mother scares me to death. (i'm not pregnant!) other things that scare me/i work myself up about: the dark, drowning, my house catching on fire, running over animals.
11. i have no emotional attachment to my father.
12. i always sing in the car even though i think i sound horrible.
13. every day i mentally beat myself up for not doing enough.
12/11/09 10:36 am - This rules
My Latin teacher, after speaking with me on metro (where I mentioned living more than an hour away, and thus the great possibility that I would not be taking Latin in the spring), pulled me aside after class yesterday and offered to do an alternate course for me next semester where I would use a different, grammar-heavy book (Wheelock's, what I used at the monastery), and we would meet at a mutually agreeable location (or online) once a week to discuss what I was working on. I would still have to go to Rockville for two tests and an exam, but that's it. So, private Latin tutoring. For credit. He thinks we can work through the whole thing (the entire Latin grammar) in a semester, which rules.

Joanna baked me a cake in celebration! It was delicious.

This fixes everything. Where before I was extremely negative about these intro courses (intro to philosophy next semester, ugh), I now see them as opportunities to open up relationships with professors, seeing as how I'm the most enthusiastic student of unpopular subjects ever.

On that note, he in considering trying to put together a course in Ancient Greek for next fall. If you are interested (and if so, why aren't we studying together already), or if you know of someone local who might be, lemme know. He needs critical mass; right now it's just me and this one other dude.

Finally, listen to more Arvo Part:

Not my favorite version ever, but it's the best one youtube had. Also I really like his compositions for mass. I heard his Gloria years ago, and it's still fucking amazing.

Kidrobot hosts MUNNYWORLD, the year’s largest custom vinyl extravaganza, showcasing talents of over 60 artists, including FIVE winners of the MUNNYWORLD Custom Contest and Kidrobot artists including 64 Colors, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Bukubuku, Chuckboy, Coolvader, Frank Kozik, Huck Gee, KRONK, MAD, SEEN, and more.

I know its hard to tell from the photos, but this is the big Mega Munny–which is 18 inches tall, the size of a small child. It took forever and so many layers of shellac for me to do the sprinkles. In some respects I wish I left it all sprinkles only because I liked the simple look of it, you can see photos of it in that stage here. Alas, I wish I took better finished photos, but it was so big and I was trying to get it out by the deadline :)
